To expand and improve the educational achievement of disadvantaged students in public and private schools.
Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, as amended by the Improving America's Schools Act (IASA) of 1994, authorizes supplemental funding for educational programs that are designed to benefit students from low-income families. California receives Title I grant awards from the federal government and then allocates the funds to school districts on the basis of the number of children receiving financial assistance through Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC). Within our school district, schools are ranked based on the percentage of students receiving free and reduced lunch.
Title I funds are intended to provide supplementary, services which may include support personnel, instructional materials, staff development, parent education and consultant services.
For the 2011-2012 school year, the following schools will participate in Title I: Burbank, Chenoweth, Cruickshank, Franklin, Fremont, Givens, Gracey, Hoover, Muir, Peterson, Stowell, Clark Preschool, Reyes, Rivera, Sheehy, Tenaya, Wright, Stefani, Novak and Our Lady of Mercy School.
